The drag star first came to our screens in 2013 on the fifth season of Drag Race and returned to the drag race for the champions season last year. Recently completing a successful run on Broadway as Matron “Mama” Morton in Chicago at the start of 2023, Monsoon has now become the first Drag Queen to star in Doctor Who.

In true Jinkx fashion, she took to Twitter to announce the news writing: “I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join @bbcdoctorwho!

Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage!”

Fans of Jinkx seem to be extremely excited about her major role in the show, commenting on her recent Instagram: “Never in my life have I cared about Doctor Who but best believe I’m watching it.”

This casting will bring a new age to Doctor Who and will drive a new generation of fans to the show.

The producers of Doctor Who have been becoming more diverse with their casting, after casting Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth doctor, making him the first Black doctor to star in the series. They also cast trans actress Yasmin Finney as the character Rose, after she gained attention as Elle in the Netflix series Heartstoppers.

Doctor Who will be returning to our screens later this year during the festive season, where you can see this talented cast in their Doctor Who debut.
